The Zweigelt grape was bred in 1922 by crossing the kékfrankos with the Szent Lőrinc. It produces a wine rich in harmonious acidity and colour. It ripens in mid-September. It is prolific and vigorous growing, resistant to frost and rot. It has good resistance to lime. In our country, it is better known for its lighter style wines, but some winemakers also make high quality, small barrel aged wines.
