Description
The use of riolite tufa improves soil life, allowing healthier crops to be grown. It can also absorb 20-25% of water, which is beneficial in both drought and wet periods. It can increase yields by up to 5-10%.
The volcanic ash content of riolite tuff is high in micro- and macro-nutrients and has a beneficial structure. By mixing it into the soil, the acidity of the soil can be reduced due to its ion exchange capacity, and the binding capacity of the soil due to its particle size. It improves the ion exchange capacity and trace element supply of acid and saline soils and sandy soils.
Its structure allows it to retain up to 20-25% of water by volume, which is advantageous in times of drought and wetland conditions. Riolite tufa therefore makes the soil more evenly distributed in terms of water management.
It is easy to spread, either with a fertiliser spreader or with a fertiliser spreader with a spinner. It can be applied at any time when there is no plant cover or when the conditions for mixing into the soil are right. Application can be made by disc, combiner and other mixing implements up to a layer of 20-25 cm of soil.
If the correct dosage is used, a 5 to 8 year durability can be achieved.
It is also suitable for use in plough soil, horticulture, mixed into the top 20 cm of the soil or applied in the planting hole at planting time.
In trials in maize, yield increases of 5-10% were achieved using riolite tufa, and grain moisture was reduced by 1%.
Among its other potential applications, it is worth mentioning that it can be used effectively for animal waste treatment, organic manure treatment, water purification, composting, as bedding material spread on the ground, as a carrier material for landscaping, pesticide and fertilizer production.
There can be no doubt about the usefulness of the valuable Bodrogkeresztur riolite tufa. Its high content of calcium, potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium can meet all the needs of vegetation, so that no other source is needed. Increased photosynthesis leads to greater carbon dioxide assimilation, which in turn results in the formation of more sugar phosphate, which can lead to better yields.
Recommended dosage:
- On sandy soils: 2-3 kg/m²
- On loam soils: 0,5-1 kg/m²
- On clay soils: 2 kg/m²
- For new plantings in planting pits: 5-15 kg
- For existing plantations: 2-3 kg/m² in the border strips
- For growing media: 25-30% by volume
Composition:
- pH: 6,6 (in 10% aqueous suspension)
- Ca: 0,10; K2O: 0,01; Mg: 0,03; Fe: 0,20; SiO2: 77,4; Na: 1,5 m/m %
- Cu: 0; Zn: 30,0; Mn: 40,0; Pb: 10 below; Cd: 0; Ni: 0; Cr: 0 mg/kg
- Moisture content: 17,8 m/m % (mine damp)
- Density: 0,7 kg/dm³
- Particle size: for filters 10-150 mm and 5-12 mm, for additives 0-5 and 0-12 mm.
Physical properties:
- Appearance greyish white, odourless grind.
- Moderately friable.
- Deposited as falling ash on high surfaces during volcanic activity.
- It binds suspended organic matter on its surface.
- The pH is shifted towards neutral.
- It improves the physical structure of soils and their cultivability.
- Provides aeration in sludges, organic wastes, manures and composts.
- It can be stored in bulk in the open air.
Its good properties have also attracted the attention of livestock farmers. During bedding, riolite tufa is spread on the soil to absorb the slurry juice and, when mixed with the manure, helps it to mature earlier so that it can be spread in one go.
It is a natural substance, has a NÉBIH marketing and use authorisation and can be used in organic farming.
