One of the earliest varieties, Malling Exploit, starts ripening 5-7 days before. It requires few pickings (4-6) and ripens quickly. It is easy to harvest because the berries are easy to detach from the cone and do not crumble.
It bears the distinct vegetative stigma typical of hybrids. Stems thick, stout, stiffly erect, short-flavoured. Requires a support system. Leaves are large, thick, medium green, with or without lobes.
The berries are particularly attractive, large on the whole cane, usually very large (average weight 5,9 g), medium-red, long (average 32 mm), conical, with large sub-flowers. Consistency is good, despite the large size of the berry and its soupy flesh. The flavour has a pleasant aroma.
It does not like soils with a high lime content, as indicated by the yellow discolouration of the shoot tips. It only grows long shoots in areas with good ecological conditions. It is a demanding variety in terms of site and cultivation techniques. It is susceptible to damage by the cane midge because of its moderate tendency to bark fly. Requires intensive crop protection.
Suitable for fresh consumption, canning and deep-freezing. Good shelf life. It keeps its colour and texture long after picking. Its early ripening makes it a leading variety on the primary market. It is recommended for both home gardening and commercial production. Suitable for propagation.
NÉBIH classification: authorised for propagation. Variety code: 284198.
