In this beautifully illustrated reference book, the reader will learn all the ins and outs of organic gardening, which is timely as people's demand for a healthy environment is constantly growing. Organic gardening - the use of environmentally friendly methods of cultivation - is a sphere of environmental protection where, in the small space available - your garden, if you like - you can preserve the remaining values of nature, creating a harmony of usefulness, health and beauty. The author, Geoff Hamilton, is a highly trained and practising broad-minded gardener, who himself has a two-acre garden in one of the Andaman Islands. His articles have appeared in magazines and he has written several books. He is an editor and contributor to the popular BBC TV series Gardener's World on British TV. He does not identify with any of the extremes of opinion on the subject, believing that the conditions for growing crops should be optimum and that chemicals should only be used as a last resort. Our gardens are a tiny slice of nature from which, with much effort and humility, we can glimpse a complex but understandable system that has been in operation for millions of years. On behalf of myself and the authors of the Hungarian edition of this book, I wish you a pleasant stay and good luck in implementing the methods you have learned here.
