What materials are used and how? ASZFALTRÓL:

Asphalt is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon rock, which also occurs on the surface of the earth as a solid appearing petroleum. It is most commonly used as asphalt pavement, mixed with bitumen binder, natural and artificial aggregates, aggregates, sand and limestone powder. Its main uses are as a flexible and semi-rigid road pavement for public roads and as a protective layer for groundwater.

Asphalt pavements
Asphalt pavements are paved surfaces made using asphalt, mainly roads, runways, pavements, public roads, car parks, yards.

Solid asphalt concrete
For the most common type of pavement used on public roads, the asphalt mix is produced in a mixing plant. It is transported from the mixing plant to the place of installation by covered lorry, at a maximum distance of 30-40 km to prevent the material from cooling down, or by heated lorry. It is spread and compacted on site by a finisher or by hand spreading, rolling in the first passes with a rubber-tired road roller and later with a steel-tired road roller.

Milled sand asphalt
It is laid in a similar way to other asphalt pavements, with a stone aggregate spreader following the finisher, which spreads a crushed stone coated with bitumen in a thickness of 3-4 cm on the top surface. The road rollers work on the surface that has already been grouted.

Mastic asphalt pavement
Mastic asphalt is nowadays used for paving urban roads in a thickness of 3-4 cm. This type of asphalt is paved without rolling. After spreading, it is sprayed with aggregate. In addition to mixing plants, mastic asphalt can also be produced in a vehicle equipped with a heated tank, known as a masticator.

Drain asphalt
A high voids pavement with a porous surface that absorbs water immediately and then drains it away. This special material is used on bridges.

Mastic asphalt
The pavement of roads with extremely heavy loads is largely made up of aggregate, which provides a stable base for the pavement. The gravel base is filled with asphalt asphalt.

Refillable pavements
Paving of low and medium traffic roads is done with a simple mixer, usually without heating. The pavement is rolled during construction, but the entire compaction is done by traffic.

Surface coating
Surface dressing is not used independently as a seal coat on new pavements and as a surface repair on old pavements. The old pavement is potholed, the surface is cleaned and a bituminous binder is sprayed onto the pavement with a bitumen spraying machine. The binder is spread and rolled with a uniform quantity of aggregate of approximately the same particle size. The pavement is post-treated for about two weeks and the aggregate is placed on the part of the pavement that is better saturated with binder.

Different types of asphalt are used according to the purpose of the application. Each type is identified by the AC designation, which indicates the nominal particle size of the material. The AC-22 asphalt type contains basalt stones up to 22 mm, while the AC-4 type contains basalt stones up to 4 mm. Therefore, AC-4 is generally used for asphalt paving in less demanding areas such as car parks, pavements and driveways, as it has a more aesthetic appearance.

Existing concrete surfaces can also be made more usable and attractive by asphalting, but it is important to prepare the surface thoroughly, dusting it down thoroughly and spreading the emulsion. Emulsion is essentially an 'adhesive' applied to concrete, it provides adhesion between the asphalt and the concrete. The finished asphalt pavement is ready to walk on once it has cooled. Depending on the weather, it can usually be ready for use after 2-3 hours.
