Recommended seed rate: 25-30 kg/ha.
Supplied in 2 x 15 kg bags, one bag containing the butterfly mixture (Joker Butterfly) and the other containing the grass mixture (Joker Grass).
Joker grows very well in most growing areas due to its high species richness. It provides high quantities of high quality bulk feed for dairy and beef cattle, as well as sheep and goats. It is recommended for hay and haylage production and for grazing on a seasonal basis or under suitable conditions. It meets the AKG green fodder standard.
Feeding benefits:
- Can be used for the production of fermented fodder and/or hay or for grazing, depending on the conditions or the feeding purpose
- Balanced energy and protein content
Cultivation benefits:
- Excellent yield: 8-12 t/ha dry matter/year
- Excellent for regeneration of grassland
- High butterflies improve soil life and provide nitrogen supply for grass species
- No plant protection required
- With proper spring and autumn maintenance, it can survive for 5-7 years without thinning out
Subsidies, compliance with regulations:
For your farm, be sure to check with your village administrator about compliance with the ACG requirements you have undertaken and other forms of support.
This product will no longer comply with the fibre butterfly standard in the ACP from 2024 to 2025, as only pure butterfly crops will meet this standard.
The conditions for the AKG green fodder have not changed, the Joker (butterfly+grass) mixture meets these conditions (minimum 3 components, of which at least one is butterfly, the other components can be grass)
For the definition of nitrogen fixation for the greening regulation, 50% butterfly seed is required for germination, the rest can be grass. If you wish to account for the Joker mixture as a nitrogen fixing crop, please consult our colleagues and also check with the village administrator for the appropriate butterfly:grass ratio.
Cultivation technology:
The butterfly ingredients and grasses are supplied in separate bags, so they must either be mixed together before sowing or sown in two rounds.
- Seedbed preparation: a seedbed that has been sown in a circular pattern and is not marked by a shoe heel or tractor wheel. Small seeds should be sown at a depth of 0 cm with the new types of seed drills, which are self-propelled into the soil. If the machine is fitted with a disc coulter, it must be lifted before sowing. To reduce the risk of weed infestation, 60 kg/ha of spring oats or 100 kg of oat peas can be sown on top if required. Separate rolling is only necessary if the soil is prone to potting.
- Nutrient supply: minimum N requirement, possibly 30 kg/ha of rapid (liquid if possible) nitrogen can be applied in spring. 10 t/ha of mature composted manure per year at the end of winter.
- Harvesting: first mowing in the year of planting, depending on rainfall, end of May/beginning of June. This is when hay and slash can be produced. In the following years it can be mown 2-4 times.
Joker grows throughout the growing season, depending on rainfall conditions, and its composition provides a varied mass feed throughout the year.
